Dr. Ethel L. Ivey – Goodwine, First Lady
Biography
Ethel L. Ivey - Goodwine a native of Mc Coll, South Carolina. She is from a family of 6 with 4 siblings. She matriculated from South Carolina and completed high school in Washington D.C. graduating ed from Spingarn Senior High. She has earned degrees of a Bachelor of Science in Business Education - District of Columbia Teacher’s College, a Masters of Arts in Business Education & Office Administration from The Catholic University of America, and a Doctorate of Religious Studies from Breakthrough Bible College and Theological Seminary. She has completed over 100 credits in theological classes and training with the accredited Southern Baptist Church Bible School and she has Technical Network Certification training with the Center for Employee Development from Northern Virginia Community College.
Beyond being an exceptional family manager, wife, mother, and care giver, Ethel began her career with D.C. Public Schools teaching in Junior High, High schools, and Adult Education Centers to assist many to obtain High School Diplomas. She spent several years as a Cartographer with the Defense Mapping Agency, converting aerial photos into digital graphics. She transitioned overseas with the US Army European Command and returned to teaching, helping soldiers and civilians earn their General Education Degree (GED). She returned to the US continuing teaching GED skills to inmates at the D.C. Correctional Treatment Facility (CTA), by establishing a curriculum of instruction and counseling of student performances. She has aided sixty plus (60+) inmates to earn their GED. She was recruited by the Safe Haven Outreach Ministries Inc., Washington D.C., to duplicate her work and achieve equal results for an underprivileged and underserved community of drug addicted, domestic violence, homeless, career criminals, and alternative life style, people, who were court ordered to that program. Ethel trusted in her Faith in God and His Word, knowing: “all things are possible with Him, if you believe.” Her efforts resulted in the salvation and educational advancement of many, after serving with the agency for 15 years.
Dr. Ethel Goodwine’s volunteer service is equally extensive with the Girls Scouts of America (GSA), the American Red Cross, Bible Study Fellowship International (BSF) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and 10 years as the Parent Director for Youth Leadership Conferences (YLC) with the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) of Prince George’s County, MD. She is a founding member of Zeta Tau Sigma Chapter, of Prince George’s County, MD , and a Cultured Perl (50 Year) life member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., with over 52 years of dedicated service. She has served in numerous servant ministry positions at the Southern Baptist Church Praise and Worship Center (SBCPWC) located in Washington D.C, where the servant leaders are Bishop Charles and Eleanor Doom. She is served in the Helps Ministry; Pastor's aid, Instructor of Sunday morning Christian Bible Training (CBT) class, and yearly Vacation Bible school; the Visitation and Grief ministry, and led a missions outreach trip to Haiti. She continues to train in Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) for local communities. She served 10 years as a GED Instructor for Catholic Charities of America in the the External Diploma Program (EDP), helping working adults to earn a High School Diploma. She directs several outreach activities with Cherry Hill Senior Residents Center of Baltimore MD; a weekly prayer line group, and a number of area food pantry centers. As the elect lady of Bread of Life Full Gospel Church she has already made an impact in encouraging spiritual growth in every member of the congregation.
Dr. Ethel Goodwine has unselfishly served while deployed in the military with her husband in the United States Army and over the years she received many awards. She is honored by by her Sorority to receive the "Village Keeper" award. Recently she has received an Outstanding Service Citation and listed on the national register with the Veteran Service Organization (VSO) of the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW);, Lastly, but not least she received from Breakthrough Bible College Theological Seminary (BBCTS) for superior staff service
Dr. Ethel L. Ivey - Goodwine was found, said yes, and now has been married for 49 years to Rev. Dr. Clement I.Goodwine Jr. whom she affectionately calls: “My H.O.D. meaning Hero On Duty.” Their marriage yielded four children, a son and three daughters and three grandchildren by God’s grace and they are also “Defenders of the Faith!”
